I’m thrilled to report that brettapproved enjoyed a productive trip to Web Summit, Dublin. It proved to be professionally and personally rewarding.

I’ve been to Mexico City and to northern Mexico as a journalist but this was my first European adventure. My biggest takeaway in regards to accessibility is this: everything is smaller in scale: elevators (or lifts as they’re called), restrooms, and restaurants – you name it – tiny is the order of the day. This is neither good or bad, it just is.

I found the people in London and Dublin to be genuinely well meaning and helpful which made the trip easier. But as many of you know, traveling on business is stressful so in that respect, while the locations were certainly unique, this trip was no different.

A lot of people have asked me how I handle the stress of traveling. This is where a positive attitude is essential. I’m not saying I never get upset because I do. However, I subscribe to the old adage “never let them see you sweat.”

Ultimately, if I lose my temper it gives whomever I’m speaking with an excuse not to assist me in solving whatever challenge is in front of me. Then, who loses? I do and who wants that? I sure don’t.

Focusing on the positive is the driving force behind brettapproved – complaining feels good in the short-term but ultimately, in my experience it doesn’t change anything.

Fortunately, in terms of stress relief, my favorite holiday is just around the corner; Thanksgiving! Why is it my favorite holiday? Family, food and football without gift-giving pressure – what’s not to love? #touchdown!

Having the opportunity to spend time with my parents, the greatest people I’ll ever know, in the house where I grew up fills me with a sense of peace that I have been unable to replicate.

Traveling back to the great state of Ohio is always fun too! A lot of people ask me why I love Ohio so much … it’s simple: I believe you can’t appreciate where you are or anticipate where you’re going, unless you respect where you’re from.

Life is a forward-moving endeavor that flies by at warp-speed. So as the holidays approach, let’s promise each other that we’ll hit the “pause” button and make the most of this season.  After all, the experiences we enjoy today will be memories in the work of a moment.

Speaking of the holidays, I’d love to hear some of your favorite holiday memories or memorable holiday-related trips!
