Saying goodbye to summer
Like most of 2014, June, July and August flew by in a blur. Summer may not officially end until September 22 when autumn introduces itself to the Northern Hemisphere, but for all intents and purposes, Labor Day and football season signal its end. Here’s a look back at our spectacular summer.
June found brettapproved at our first Abilities Expo just outside Chicago in Schaumburg, Illinois. It was awesome!
Ms. Wheelchair Michigan, Kelsey Kleimola, dynamic comedy duo Mike and Tim from Handicap This, the magnetic Ernie “Big Ern” Espinoza, Western Region Vice President for Colours in Motion wheelchairs, Kristina Rhoades from MV1, unforgettable brettapproved supporter and user, Whitley Hodges, world-renowned harp technician George Flores and 7-year-old artist extraordinaire Michael, (pictured) from Downers Grove, Illinois were just some of the amazing people we met.
From there, it was off to Northwest Ohio where I met with brettapproved advisor and Thrive Internet Marketing Founder Ian Hartten. Of course, the July 4 holiday was spent with family in the heart of Providence Township. Without family we have nothing. Without family we are nothing.

The Emerald City
Next, it was off to my home away from home, Seattle, Washington for our brettapproved crew meeting. It was an all-hands-on-deck situation. We enjoyed a productive week together talking shop.
As always, the view from my host’s condo was amazing! Who doesn’t love looking out at picturesque Elliott Bay? Thank you Gillian and Scott for your hospitality and all of the amazing Hamburger Helper 😉
Sidebar number two: Walt, thanks for the oysters, chocolate stout and of course, thanks for buying the first round of ice cream. Don’t you just love mint chocolate chip!? ?
California knows how to party
Fast forward two weeks and we were reconnecting with old friends and forging new friendships in Long Beach, Calif. at the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant. We met amazing contestants from across the country.
Juliet Martinez made Arizona proud finishing as third runner up. And, brettapproved found a kindred spirit in Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, Kanika Davis. Living life without limits and experiencing life though travel were major elements of her platform. Very cool! In fact, look for a guest blog from Kanika in September!
It was an unforgettable weekend and we look forward to attending the pageant next year. Congratulations to Sam Schroth, Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin for bringing home the crown. Well done, Sam! Ms. Wheelchair Michigan, our friend Kelsey (pictured), was fifth runner up by the way. Recognize the guy in the photo with her? Who says Buckeyes and Spartans can’t get along? O-H!
Home in Phoenix long enough to catch our breath, it’s time to hit the road yet again and we couldn’t be more excited! This time it’s to celebrate the marriage of Victoria and Chris, an awesome couple we’re proud to call family. We’re stoked to spend some time in California celebrating this milestone.
On behalf of the entire brettapproved crew, we hope your summer was full of amazing memories too! Please enjoy a fun, safe Labor Day weekend in the company of family and friends!
